Dear colleagues and curious minds, We are delighted to invite you to the German Pain Congress 2025 in Mannheim. This year's motto is “Curiosity for New Territory”. Join us in the Rosengarten to explore new frontiers in pain medicine: both in clinical care and in basic and applied scientific research. Curiosity is a catalyst for human knowledge. It means the inherent urge to discover new things, to leave familiar paths, and to overcome habitual ways of thinking. Pain research is a field that never stands still – and that’s a good thing. In a time when pain research is increasingly interdisciplinary and internationally networked, we must look beyond our own horizons and engage with new methods, insights, and perspectives. This congress provides the opportunity to discover this new territory, not only theoretically but also practically – with exciting contributions from various disciplines and countries. A central aspect will be networking: personal exchange between pain researchers and clinicians from a variety of specialties brings new perspectives and ideas that must be integrated into our work. Take advantage of this opportunity – whether at the congress party or during a joint walk – to network, exchange ideas, and explore new paths together. And help us celebrate the 50th anniversary of the German Pain Society. Ultimately, a fundamental question arises that affects not only research but all of us as a society: How much pain and how much health can we afford and do we want? Where do the responsibilities of society and the individual lie? These questions are more relevant than ever and invite us to explore them in greater depth during this congress.
